Cash cow for state gaushala owners

e department of animal husbandry and fisheries has launched a scheme to extend financial assistance to gaushala (cow shelter) owners. Maximum financial grants under the scheme would be upto Rs 50 lakh annually. However, the grants given would depend on the expenses being borne by the owner of the gaushala. Agriculture minister Randhir Kumar Singh, while talking to the media on Wednesday, said that the department has finalized and notified applicants about the criteria for selection to receive grants.

“Anyone with a functional gaushala in the state for more than three years is eligible to apply. But, the gaushala has to be registered with the commission (Goseva Aayog),” said Singh, adding that currently there are only 27 gaushalas functioning in the state, of which 13 have been registered with the commission. “We are sure that there are more gaushalas but they have not been registered with the commission. Owners must register their gaushala to avail of benefits,” said Singh.
Singh added that once registered, the gaushala will need to produce a balance sheet of audited accounts for two years along with the annual progress report for a similar period. “Interested parties must prepare a detailed estimate for modernisation or revamping of the existing gaushala and obtain a technical clearance to the estimate from a competent authority,” said Singh. He added that the gaushala can be upgraded by installing a water supply system, cattle shed, purchase of dairy equipment, installing gobar gas plant and vermin compost plant, purchasing milking machine or milk chiller van, constructing aboundary wall and installing afodder storage facility.
