Cow Dung is 5 times more valuable than meat and leather
Data coming out of the Central Statistical Organization (Government of India), has shown that Indians earn a lot of money from Dung fuel and Dung manure of livestock. The numbers are a grand total for all livestock and not limited to cows only.
Comparing two data periods the estimated revenues are below
Dung fuel
1999-2000 = Rs.4,295 crores
2007-2008 = Rs.8,415 crores
Dung Manure
1999-2000 = Rs. 6,238 crores
2007-2008 = Rs.10,086 crores
Looking at 2007-08, the combined revenue from dung adds up to a whopping Rs.18,501 crores. While the reports do not make this assumption clear, this is more likely than not the value of dung that was sold by the livestock owners.
Total Revenues from Livestock
1999-2000 = Rs. 129,531 crores
2007-2008 = Rs. 240,601 crores
It is obvious that over 8 years, the total revenues from livestock have pretty much doubled.
