Domestic biogas plants a hit in villages

Many rural households in the district are no longer dependent on LPG for fuel after setting up the domestic biogas plants. The subsidy and assistance provided by the Punjab Energy Development Authority (PEDA) encouraged many residents of the villages to opt for biogas plants.

Iqbal Singh, a farmer from Dalla village, Jagraon, said, he set up a biogas plant last month at his home and it has brought great relief to his family, as they no longer have to use LPG cylinders. “We no longer book cylinder, and wait for it, and shell out money every time. It is helpful in saving money,” he added. “We have three cows and calves, and the gas is enough for the cooking needs for the six-member family.” The gas is produced relatively more during the summer,” he said. Jagtar Singh, another farmer said though the expenditure of setting up a domestic plant was about Rs 50,000, and he has applied for subsidy, but the plant helps in saving expenses made on LPG.

Jarnail Singh, another farmer, from Sidhwan Bet said the slurry generated from the plant also helps in making organic manure as well. Read More…
